Michael F. Pizzillo, M.D.

Dr. Pizzillo specializes in shoulder surgery in addition to hand and upper extremity surgery. This specialty encompasses arthroscopic rotator cuff and labral repairs as well as the more traditional open shoulder surgery. He also performs arthroscopic and open surgery on the elbow and wrist. His practice focuses on sports injuries of the shoulder and upper extremity, addressing complex rotator cuff pathology in both the active and mature population. Similarly, his specialty training in shoulder surgery addresses the treatment of arthritic conditions of the shoulder joint, providing the patient with the latest options in joint replacement. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Pizzillo also holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Hand Surgery, enabling him to extend his expertise from the shoulder, through the elbow and down to the wrist and hand.

Dr. Pizzillo also holds a second Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Sports Medicine, making him one of thirty six physicians nationwide and one of five physicians in New Jersey to hold two orthopedic subspecialty certificates (2017 ABOS data).

Education

Dr. Pizzillo graduated from both Colgate University and SUNY-Health Science Center with Honors. He completed his general surgery internship and orthopedic residency at New York University Medical Center, Bellevue Hospital Medical Center and the Manhattan Veterans Administration Hospital.

Dr. Pizzillo has fellowship training in shoulder surgery as well as hand and upper extremity surgery,having completed specialty training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
